Tripartite Meeting in Algiers on international conference of twinned towns and solidarity with SADR
The international conference of twinned towns and solidarity with the SADR scheduled on December 12 - 13 in Algiers, has been the focus of a tripartite meeting Wednesday, bringing together the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi people (CNASPS), the Organization of United cities, towns and governments of Africa (UGLUA) and a delegation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
The meeting was attended by President of the UGLUA, the Reverend South African Mr. Smangliso and members of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali and Mohamedlamine Dadi, respectively: Ambassador of SADR in Algiers and governor of Laayoune.
In a press statement, the president of CNASPS, Mr. Mahrez Lamari indicated, "a meeting on preparations for the international conference of twinned cities and solidarity with the SADR is scheduled in Algiers on December 12 - 13.
"We discussed the priorities and main lines of this conference, and we agreed to highlight the responsibility of the United Nations for the implementation of resolutions consecrated to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination," he said.
Mr. Lamari further affirmed that the organizers will work to make the conference in Algiers "a forum which will discuss the violation of human rights in the occupied Saharawi territories and the illegal exploitation of the wealth of Western Sahara by the Moroccan occupation. "
The conference will also "allow us to seek together ways in which we can expand the reach of Solidarity with the Saharawi people to exercise freely their right to self-determination through a free and fair referendum without constraints, "he added.
In addition to the elected and other officials, the appointment in December will also see the participation of intellectuals, defenders of human rights, artists and poets, he said, and "will be devoted to the popular expression and international movement of solidarity. "
On his part, the president of the UGLUA, Reverend Smangliso indicated, "this conference will focus on solidarity and support with the Sahrawi people." Adding, "We have a responsibility related to the values we cherish, and in particular with regard to the peoples who seek independence and self-determination", as the case of the Saharawi people.
Meanwhile, Saharawi ambassador in Algiers, Mr. Ghali, noting the importance of the conference, said it will be an opportunity to "denounce the Moroccan occupation, calling for the implementation of UN resolutions embodying self-determination for the Saharawi people, and urged Morocco to meet its obligations concerning international legality. "
Moreover, the tripartite was marked by the designation of Algeria, in the person of the President of the People s Assembly of Central Algiers municipality (PCA), Mr. Tayeb Zitouni, head of the vice-presidency UGLUA and the presidency of the region of North Africa.
